It's an alumni band year!
07:41pm 26/01/2007
mood: ready for alumni band!!
I just booked a hotel room for Homecoming! This is significant because:

A) I'm paying $95 a night for 2 nights in a hotel room in a town where you get a large apartment for less than $500 a month. And that's with 10 months advance notice in the reservation! I think hotels in Big Ten towns make all of their annual income on football weekends. :D

B) I am now officially old enough to no longer know anyone who's still an active student on campus! So I'm staying in a hotel because I have no one to crash with anymore. Woot woot!

does anybody know where I can get a house-divided flag for Northwestern and Ohio State? I've searched all over the internet, and I can't find that combination...but I know they exist, because i've seen them! (a hat or welcome mat or something else of that nature would work too)

any help would be AWESOME! thanks guys.

Just a little something to share with all of the other Big 10 band members here...I found this while searching on our homepage so I thought I would share it with all of you who haven't seen it before...it needs a bit of updating and some energy running through it! :)

Big 10 Bands - The Practice Field
Run-on returns to AAMB Pre-Game Show
07:07pm 06/09/2006
I just got my alumni newsletter. Interim AAMB Director Jay Gephart is bringing back run-on to the pregame show! (And the Slayter Center pep rally returns, too?) Hallelujah! I knew I liked that man.

R.I.P. Randy Walker

mood: sad
It's been a sad, sad day for the Wildcats. As a NUMBalum, I'm wondering if anyone from the band will be attending Coach Walker's funeral or if the band will in someway be paying tribute to him.

Metal Toy Soldier (Big Ten) Band Figures
12:48am 22/06/2006
They're a bit overpriced, but I still think they're fun to look at. The uniforms look pretty accurate, but I could be wrong. Michigan, Ohio State, Purdue, Wisconsin, Penn State, and Michigan State are the only Big Ten bands there.

Two things I noticed about the website:
1. Bill the Bandman apparently doesn't know how to spell "Sousaphone"
2. What college marching band (of the ones listed) actually marches with bassoons?

Sorry to waste everyone's precious livejournal space... I just thought one or two of you would get a chuckle out of figures of ourselves.

It's that time of year again!

Band Season officially begins on Columbus, OH tonight! The first Ohio State summer sessions are tonight at 7pm. Practices are held every Tuesday and Thursday through the end of August.

I can't wait to see some of the Big Ten bands in the Horseshoe this year, I hear quite a few are making the trek to Columbus! Hope to see some of you in the fall.

Spring is in the air and football is right around the corner. Our Spring Athletic Band had its first two practices this week. We learned, then marched and played our entire pregame show for the Spring Game today, which, although it's simple, still impressed me because we have several people who've never even marched at OSU until this week. How is everyone else doing? I suppose some people could still be on tournament trips, although I doubt that would include anyone in the Big Ten at this point.

Bowl Games
01:46pm 05/01/2006
Hi all, just wondering how your bowl experiences were...

NU went to the Sun Bowl. We were treated pretty well (greeted at the airport by a mariachi band, and the hotel had up a banner welcoming us and all the employees wore NU shirts) and got lots of compliments from alums and such. We also got about 7 minutes at both pregame and halftime, as did UCLA, and we performed at several "fan fiesta" events. It was a pretty good trip all around.

No post-game concert?
12:26pm 20/11/2005
mood: inquisitive
A general question for all of the community - if you have the option to be able to do a post-game show on an away trip, should you? Assuming that there is no danger to your life or possibility of damage to you or your instruments, of course.

Context of asking - The Michigan-Ohio State game, November 19, 02005Collapse )

a question for y'all.
02:42pm 15/11/2005
I was wondering if any of you have people or know of people in your bands who have marched for more than one Big 10 band/team.
